    This is a course in mixed media painting for all levels. Students will utilize non-traditional materials and alternative processes to create multi-layered paintings and be challenged to develop and/or better communicate the cultural concepts behind their art.     A foundation course which concentrates on developing basic drawing skills and vocabulary. Using a wide variety of materials, we will explore line, shape, value, and texture and the creation of space on a 2-D surface. Students will develop strong foundations and discover creative possibilities through drawing.

    This is a course in direct painting for all levels. Using a variety of subjects, beginners will learn the basics of composition, color mixing, and the expressive qualities of paint. Beginners will work on projects designed to learn basic skills. Experienced students will work with the instructor to choose a special project for the month. All students will progress individually as they develop their skills and broaden their knowledge of painting.

    Learn to create accurate, dynamic, alla prima figure paintings or drawings in oil and/or charcoal. Working from the live model, we will study the structure and proportions of the figure, as well as oil color-mixing strategies, and application techniques for creating lively skin tones and animated expressions. Portraiture concepts and techniques can also be covered if there is an interest. The student may choose to work only in charcoal or may advance to oil painting.
