Mia Yoon
Mia Yoon was born in Seoul, South Korea. She moved to New York in 1972. She started a serious art training at the early age of 14 at “Art Students of League” of NY and continued for 7 Years. She went to Pratt Institute, but she feels the early art education at Art Students League shaped her life as an artist. Her vision of opening an art school modeled after the ASL in Raleigh came from this important part of her life. As ASL shaped her as an artist, she feels that it is essential to provide everyone with same high quality art training that is affordable with passionate dedication to art. Mia Yoon’s philosophy of teaching is to guide each student towards their innate talents, and to help the individual to find their own voice in their work. Her class will explore free style in oil painting technique, colors, composition, and ability to think in abstract. Even though she believes in the whole class as one structure, at the same time she strongly emphasize on one on one instruction to understand unique individual talent and to guide them with their own pace. Her class will also focus on critiquing the work at end of the session. She believes this is an important part of being an artist to see their own work objectively. She moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994. She has shown in SECCA, Atlanta gallery, and currently she is showing in Flanders Art Gallery.
